I saw two stories on the BBC Online service today that struck me sharply by their contrast - one about the systematic exploitation of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (the story starts in the 1600s, so you can read it for the most part without participatory guilt) and another about the Nobel prize for Prof Higgs and his fellow prof. for finding out something detailed about the universe. The one seemed dependent on the other - and yet the one did not benefit from the other - something seems uncomfortable about both being news on the same day - Ill post them in comments . . .
