I saw your website and what a great service you are providing to the community. I wanted to let you know about another great resource for ABI/Stroke survivors. It is a post-acute neuro-rehabilitation and wellness center called Challenge Center. We provide sliding scale physical therapy for seniors and people with disabilities after theyve exhausted their insurance coverage. As you no doubt know, or experienced yourself, the amount of physical therapy one receives after a stroke varies greatly but is almost never sufficient. There is also the issue of insurance covered therapy being limited to working on medically necessary goals. There are a great many goals in life that may not be medically necessary but can make or break the quality of ones life. This is where Challenge Center comes in. Since we offer financial aid (scholarships) instead of billing insurance, we arent bound by medical necessity restrictions. The client is our one and only customer and their goals are our goals from walking your daughter down the aisle, to dancing at your 50th wedding anniversary, to making your famous strudel, to running in your first 5k. Our clients have achieved all of these goals and more with our intensive physical therapy approach including forced use and constraint induced recovery for both the upper and lower extremities. Our focus is on recovering function, and restoring as much normal movement as possible - not on learning compensations that avoid involving the affected side. Once a clients function has been optimized (or during) we have a state of the art accessible gym with specially trained personal trainers that assist clients in carrying out Physical Therapist prescribed exercise programs to ensure the programs are both safe and effective. Challenge Center is a unique resource for the San Diego area. Few, if any, PT clinics in the country offer sliding scale physical therapy for the length of time needed for the client to reach their full potential - sometimes years. And very few facilities offered PT directed fitness and wellness service.
