I seem to have stirred some controversy over my editor comments. - TopicsExpress

I seem to have stirred some controversy over my editor comments. So let me edit my thoughts and say this: I value the contribution of the editors who have worked on my books. As Ive said in the past, I believe my time in traditional publishing, working with someone who challenged me, was a good thing. I also currently give all of my indie books to a NYT bestselling author who graciously reads and critiques for me and her input is invaluable. In fact, its probably better input than Ive ever gotten from any of my traditional editors. So please, for godsakes, dont construe my previous comment as a slam against editors. Im simply saying that some writers are perfectly capable of self-editing (as we all do to varying degrees) and dont need a story editor to make their books better. They know what theyre doing. Theyve probably benefitted, as I have, by working with editors in the past. I also know that some writers definitely DO need an editor. My point is simply that we shouldnt automatically assume that every book needs to be edited by someone other than the author. I honestly dont think this is a controversial thing to say.
