I sent an email to trentinptop.it the day Daniza was killed, September 11th, 2014 - heres a copy of it, together with their reply and my further reply. It is interesting that they keep on justifying everything on the basis of Daniza having killed livestock..... Dear Andrea, Thank you for your reply and for your kind offer to help me find a suitable solution for a holiday in Trentino. In my initial message to you of September 11th, the same day that Daniza was killed, I thought that I had given you my reasons. I will try to be more specific, now that you have given me a few points to comment upon. With all due respect Andrea, when Trentino decided to reintroduce bears back into an area where they had been wiped out, there are precautions and risks to take into consideration. Trentino received a lot of European taxpayers money to reintroduce bears and it has been a tremendous success compared to other areas in Europe where it was a flop. Trentino should be proud and shouldnt be killing these magnificent and precious animals! I cannot honestly accept as an excuse that Daniza killed many animals in the last months - the farmers, if I am not mistaken, are compensated for every animal that gets killed by nature. Nature, Andrea, we are talking about nature! I am not saying that I am not sorry for the animals that have died, the exact contrary, I am also a vegetarian. The animals that Daniza allegedly killed, were animals that were very sadly destined to be killed for food! I am totally against killing any kind of animal for food. However, in nature, animals kill animals and we have to accept this fact. Humans do not need to kill animals anymore to survive! We as humans have the duty to protect any living being that does not have a voice i.e. animals, children, and more. I am not at all evaluating Trentino negatively! Trentino is a beautiful and wonderful area with amazing parks, people and nature, however, I cannot bring myself to spend any of my money in an area where the authorities and/or politicians do not respect animals, nature and, as a consequence, also human beings. Our wildlife are for the whole world, not just for a group of people, they are also for future generations and we have the duty to safeguard them! This is something that Trentino has shown the world that they are not capable of doing! I also do not believe for one moment that everybody in Trentino is sad and disappointed about the death of Daniza - I believe that a lot of people in Trentino most certainly are sad and disappointed, but it is obvious that NOT ALL of them are. Dear Andrea, lets be open and honest about all this: 1) There was probably never even an attack on a person picking mushrooms, that person probably would never have lived to tell the tale if he had really been attacked. 2) A group of people, amongst which, farmers, were very upset about the bears killing their livestock and were lobbying with politicians to get the bears out. 3) Trentino is a nice skiing place and some extra space for some new slopes would be welcomed. 4) If you try to take a helicopter view of this whole story, it really seems as if it were very carefully planned from the very beginning. 5) As soon as the alleged attack took place, a nanosecond after, it was announced that Daniza was to be killed. No investigation! No nothing! Daniza found guilty of what? If anything, and I repeat IF ANYTHING, she was behaving like a mother and protecting her cubs. 6) After the uproar on social and more, the authorities and/or politicians changed their declaration from kill to capture - just to keep the animalists calm and happy, they thought. But all the long they were still planning to carry out their plan A: kill Daniza. By killing Daniza, they were also killing the cubs. 7) All the animal associations expressed their expert opinion and told the authorities and/or politicians to leave Daniza and her cubs alone. 8) The unacceptable arrogance of the authorities and/or politicians could not accept their advice. This certainly, to me at least, looks very near to a dictatorship and not certainly a democracy that I have been lead to believe exists in Italy. 9) Many animals are darted every single day and nothing ever happens to them, yes, there are cases where animals do not survive, however, this case is just far too suspicious. Nobody will ever convince me that Daniza wasnt killed on purpose! They had initially declared that they would kill her, and they most certainly kept their word! I dont think you have strong laws at all. So, you see Andrea, I cannot go against my values and help an area such as Trentino by visiting it on holiday, nor by purchasing any products! It is not only me, I think you will find a lot of people will avoid Trentino like the plague, because it is the only way of making our opinions heard and perhaps considered. I am very sorry for those wonderful people of Trentino but I know that they will understand and will take steps to get rid of those who are ruining the credibility and reputation of their very beautiful area. If they had listened to the experts and more, Trentino would not be in this situation today and actually, thanks to the bears, they would even be making more money. You see, incompetence can only bring more incompetence and if you dont rid yourself of the cancer, eventually, well, you dont need me to tell you what happens.
