I shared this on my personal FB page but thought it probably should be shared here also. There are some problems with this interview but it begins to raise the issue I see with kids and youth athletics. An issue I didnt see when I was playing sports. Kids begin playing a sport lacking the strength they need to play the sport. Then they never get an off season to actually aquire the strength they need to play the sport safely. They just go from county ball to travel ball to indoor ball and back to county ball. Amazingly, if the kid is strong and powerful they do not need to play the sport 12 months out of the year to be gpod at it. Does the NFL play football 12 months out of the year? What would happen if they did? Injuries? Shorter careers than they already have? The surgeon is on to something but the solution is only half there. Let your child have an off season and when they are developmentally ready find a damn good strength coach to begin the process of getting them strong. If the place you take them is not teaching loaded squats, presses, and pulls then find a new place because agility ladders and conditioning workouts are not what they need in an off season. I touched on this not long ago. I will link to the article in the comments.
