I shared this so that those who have never seen the suffering - TopicsExpress

I shared this so that those who have never seen the suffering first-hand, will no longer simply see ALS as a disease in the abstract. My mother only lived a year and a half with it before suffering a heart attack while having her throat suctioned..a welcome relief, cruel though it was. She could not clear her airway because she lacked the strength to cough. She knew full well what was happening. She diagnosed herself. It does not affect the mind. This is what we are up against. I would say it is diabolical, but I dont believe in that. It is a defect of genetics, or a reaction to exposure to a toxin over time. My mother drank caffeine-free diet colas most of her life. Maybe it was a reaction to sweeteners...Who knows?? She also smoked, and I held cigarettes to her mouth so she could satisfy that craving, though she could barely breathe. Sick, huh?! So while so many of you are amusing yourselves with the ice bucket bath, remember what you have seen in this video. This is what living with ALS is like, and what caretakers, usually family until it is hospice, must endure 24/7. Please help with a donation. We ARE making a difference.
