I spent some of today looking at clothing labels interested to see where a lot of the retro clothing & garments I own come from. Id say China & Bangladesh are clear winners. My interest has derived from the fact that I have had frequent wholesale enquiries since setting up Little Miss Retro UK in April of this year. And because I prefer to have my frocks made in this country I have had to turn down sales in order to facilitate this. To sell wholesale means I would be lucky to make £3 per garment. It would be great to further the horizons of Little Miss Retro UK but at what cost? Popular retro labels are continuing to have their garments made abroad despite the fact that 1129 people were killed in the Rana Plaza Factory collapse last year. And in a tragic twist the people who died were making only 35 Euros per month. Modern slave labour indeed! Does it make shoppers consider where they are spending their money? Evidently not looking at the rise of many popular fashion chains & retro labels. Victims & families are still waiting for compensation. Some families received the paltry sum of $200 from Primark if they could provide DNA evidence!!! Some of our very well known fashion chains refuse to even attend meetings about compensating victims & their families. Have a look at your labels girls & decide whether your frocks are worth lives. Little Miss Retro UK shall stay in the UK. We must not continue to fund slave labour through vanity!
