I still cant believe its been 50 years today! I remember exactly where I was...I was 12 years old, and in my 2nd period wood shop class at Central Junior High School in Anchorage, AK. The principal came on the PA, her voice was a little shaky, and she told us that President Kennedy had just been shot and killed in Dallas, TX. We were all sent home, and they way I remember it, the whole nation simply shut down for about a week. Then just four months later, on March 27, 1964, our lives were again shattered, much closer to home, as we lived through 4 1/2 minutes of 9.2 in the Good Friday Alaskan Earthquake ...the strongest quake ever recorded in North America. I remember President Lyndon Johnson came up in Air Force One, the same plane that had carried Kennedys body from Dallas back to Washington DC, to survey the damage and pledge federal aid. A cold and black stormy day down here on the Salton Sea...somehow appropriate. 9/11 was the only other time I remember feeling like I did after the Kennedy assassination November 22, 1963. christianchalifour
