I suggest that it is the pursuit of self-interests, along with respect for others (if not at least the respect for the damage others could do) that makes this work. In the United States, where much of the citizenry has been cajoled into believing that doing for others is more important than doing for oneself, traffic would come to a stand-still because too many drivers would sheepishly sit in the middle of the intersection, not wishing to offend. Its the people of Ethiopia, who have close ties to a culture where mere survival depends on going where you have to go, and doing what you have to do; that demonstrate how capitalism should work. Either that or its computer-generated imagery. Bring on the traffic lights!
