I thank the North Hardin Branch of the NAACP for sponsoring a candidate forum for the three democratic candidates for District 1 Magistrate (Brunson, Easter, Yates), and the 19 candidates for Radcliff City Council. The News Enterprise editor, Ben Sheroan moderated the forums and did an excellent job. He displayed a knowledge of Radcliffs early days that was very enjoyable. Was disappointed to learn each of the magisterial candidates was for allowing an additional 1% sales tax. As well listening to one it sounded like he was running for a city position, rather than a county position. The incumbent Roy Easter showed a command of the issues and demonstrated he voted as his constituents desired, perhaps over his own beliefs. He was very candid in his comments and remarks. This is good to my mind. I was disappointed in many of the council candidates because of their lack of knowledge about the issues many of them were proposing. It was obvious they know little about the local organizations in the area, or the actual duties and responsibilities of the position. Many appeared to me to attribute and assume more power to the position of council than is real. Of the incumbents attending Barbara Baker was the most direct in answering the questions following up her statements with indisputable facts. Others were rather obtuse in some answers, wrong in others, and on target in a few. All incumbents deserve kudos for their performance and support of Mayor Duvalls goals and accomplishments these past three years. Of the newcomers Terry Shortt was focused, honest and direct. Was disappointed he did not highlight his Facebook page Radcliff KY Information that really had become the site for learning about what is happening in Radcliff. Or his work in providing candidates a FREE you tube and Facebook video to promote their candidacy. Not to mention his work with the Small Business Alliance, His business sense and focus in issues would be a great asset to any council. The many candidates, County and council, who are supportive of transportation did nothing to define their exact definition of what the specifics they were talking about. A magisterial candidate talked of a four year old verbal commitment by a former Louisville official that promised six busses to run from Etown through Radcliff, Fort Knox, Muldraugh, West Point and Louisville. I guess I would believe it if I saw it in writing and knew what the details were. I for one do not want to spend a single tax dollar transporting citizens to shop in another City. Would recommend these candidates get more specific about their view of transportation. Okay so this is my opinion. I hope you will take the time and watch this forum on HCETV and draw you own conclusions. The above is my opinion as I see it on the night of forum. I congratulate each candidate fir their stepping into the ring and doing a great job tonight, Please be an informed voter, I try to be.
