I think that if there were a word to describe tonight, it would be “interesting”. We decided to take the Mustang to the Briargate dojang for Gospel Team tonight. We brought Josh back to his house on the way home, and by the time we left his house, it was already dark. So, as we were driving down Tutt, the hood suddenly came up and my Mom (who was driving) couldn’t see where we were going, and was driving with her head out the window (like Ace Ventura Pet Detective… XD her new nickname is now “Ace”). Matt and I, who were both on the passenger side, directed her to the side of the road. There wasn’t a shoulder on the side of the road, just a bike lane. After we pulled over, half of the car was still in the middle of the street. No cars were coming for the moment, so I got out assess the damage. The force of the hood coming up had bent the passenger side of the hood quite badly. We were about 30-40 feet in front of an intersection that led into a parking lot, so I told Mom to put it in reverse and flip on the hazards. Meanwhile, Matt had gotten out and was directing the now oncoming traffic away from our car. One person didn’t see us until the last minute, and actually had to swerve to get out of the way! Shortly after we had backed into the empty parking lot, a pickup truck passed by, with a voice shouting, “Hey, guys! Hey! Matthew!” It was Angela Olsen and her sister, who were going shopping. We told them about our problem, and they said they had tools and a bungee cord to hold the hood down. They weren’t even originally going to be driving that truck, and just happened to be carrying those tools with them. They also wouldn’t have seen us if we hadn’t backed into that parking lot, and they wouldn’t have recognized us if we weren’t wearing the TKD jackets. After looking at the hood and the latch, I noticed that at least one of the bolts that held the latch in place was loose. I used their ratchet to tighten it, and some of the other ones as well, just to be safe. With the dent in the hood, it was difficult to close. It took a bit of force, but the hood was eventually closed and secured with a bungee cord. We drove to a nearby Panera Bread, and then headed home. I should mention that about five minutes before the Olsen’s got there, Matt was praying for help. All I can say is, it was a night to remember, a great story, and an awesome God moment.
