I took the following poll yesterday: 1) Do you think men and women in cycling should receive equal prize money? If No - why not? If Yes - Question 2 2) Even if that would mean the redistribution of funds would mean the men receive less prize money than they currently do? Here are the results: Males: 55% of males agree that females should get the same prize money as males. Of this proportion, when asked Question 2, 100% hesitated prior to answering yes. 45% of males do not agree that females should get the same prize money as males. Reasons included: ~It should be dependent on sponsorship - the return on investment you are able to provide to the sponsor ~They should only get equal prize money if the numbers are equal ~Not until the distances are the same as the men race 1 male respondent even went as far as to say: If women were smarter about it, theyd be making at least as much as the men. Females: 60% of females agree that females should get the same prize money as males. Of this proportion, when asked Question 2, 0% hesitated prior to answering yes. 40% of females do not agree that females should get the same prize money as males. Reasons included: ~It should be proportional to the distance covered in the race. If they race 70% as far, they should only get 70% of the prize money ~The men have more numbers than us. Its just the way it is. What surprised CWRB the most was the small difference between males and females response to Question 1. Please share your thoughts and comments here.
