I travelled to France today......sort of... I was invited to the French Embassy in Washington DC this afternoon to attend the ceremony where Charles Keel was awarded Frances highest honor, the Chevalier of the Legion of Honour. He was one of approximately 24 men receiving this recognition for their service in World War II and the role they played in the liberation of France. This recognition follows the 70th anniversary celebrations of the invasion of Normandy. The ceremony was very heartfelt and respectful for these brave men who probably all claim that they only did what they were asked to do. The Consul General hosted the event and presented the awards with deep appreciation for these men and their fallen companions and he stressed the appreciation and friendship between the US and France. It was very moving to watch families enjoy seeing fathers, grandfathers, uncles and friends be honored in such a special way. I appreciate the opportunity to share this day with a friend and it is both humbling and an honor to learn more about the Greatest Generation.
