I trust my local farmer more than any chain store. I visit and talk with them regularly. I ask questions and personally inspect the land and their techniques for produce and livestock before choosing a new farmer. It is my experience that very few farmers will deny any request within reason. If I want to see how their animals are raised, are they cared for with respect and feed a proper diet. They will have no qualms showing me their herds and flocks, etc…as well as their feed. If they are good farmers they will have nothing to hide. I have been denied in the past, so at that point, I thank them and move on. What better way to know your food is safe than to look with your own eyes.
