I turned down Barcelona, says Chelseadefender - TopicsExpress

I turned down Barcelona, says Chelseadefender Chelseacentre backDavid Luiz has claimed today that he turned down theopportunity to join Spanish champions Barcelona during the transfer window. According to SkySports, the Brazilian has claimed that he snubbed Barcelona’s offer as he is happy to stay with the Blues for this season. Barca’s offer The La Liga side were said to have made an offer in the early parts of the summer for Luizas they looked to bring a new centre back to the Nou Camp, with Marc Bartra still young and Carlos Puyol beginning to show the signs of ageing. Chelsea though would reject the bidas it didn’t come close to their valuation of the Brazil international, but Luiz has said he wouldn’t have thought about moving to Spain. SkySportshas said that whilst the Brazilian was speaking toGazeta Esportiva, Luiz stated: “There was an official offer [from Barcelona], but I decided to stay at Chelsea. I am happy to play for a big club and be in the national team to represent my country.” The 26 year olds attention is now firmly with the Blues, and he has said that he is happy with his team’s draw for theChampions League. “It’s always a tough competition with great opponents. “But it’s always good when we can avoid teams with history of wins in the competition.” Chelsea career Luiz has had a very exciting Chelsea career since joining the club from Benfica back in 2011 for 25m euros, and theBlues fans are sureto be happy that the centre back seems happy to continue his career in West London. The 6ft2 defender, (which is a very loose term for him) has brought a spark and pace to Chelsea’s defence, even if at times his defending does appear lacking. Whether or not Jose Mourinho is a fan of Luiz isn’t clear but I for one feel that The Special One would have a much worseteam if the Brazilianwas sold to Barcelona this summer. His enigmatic form of defending is always fantastic to watch, and hopefully he will continue to strut his stuff in the Premier League for the foreseeable future.
