I used to fry donuts for real ! I just put on a post on how my first job ever was in a bakery at age 12 . Things were different back then ! I started out at 1.65 an hour ! I sliced the bread on a noisy old bread slicer that thank God never took off my fingers ! It could have ! Spacey teenager zoning out just working away to the clatter of that machine ,if it had taken off my fingers making roses might not be my job now . About 25 to 30 saw blades going vertically up & down . The last loaves pushing them through with your bare hands ... Yes , that was dumb ,I was 12 what can I say !So thankful looking back at what could have been . :o) When I was 16 I got a job at another bakery . I mixed the cake donut batter in a med sized mixer where you measure with pounds & pints & quarts & gallons . I was super fast at flipping those donuts with sticks that resembled drum sticks . I could drop the donuts , slam one rack in the glazer with a once over of glaze pop them up ,flip the ones in the grease pop the others in the sugar bowl & lift those out & drop the next screen in the grease ! It was fun , I was wild donut frying girl !One does not wait when you can do 4 things at once ! I got a lot of burns & scars ! Id come home with glaze & powdered sugar on my sneakers but my dog was happy to see me ! She loved my shoes , never had to clean them HA !!!!Shed take care of that !Just like new the next morning ! She loved her job too !!!:o) That bakery job is where my boss Dean showed me & another lady a quick lesson in cake decorating . He said now go home & practice what I showed you . He said , Ill check what you know in a week or 2 & he picked me because I actually had practiced ! Long ago & far away . Those were the days of my life :o) Just think 1.65 the minimum wage ! It is where a good share of us start, who knows where we end . Smiles , Rhonda
