I want to take a moment to talk about how frustrated I am with the handling of Amiibos. Theres a lot of shadiness, inconsistencies, and business ploys that are just there trying to screw people over and, quite frankly, its officially pissed me off. First up is the holy trinity of amiibos. Marth, Villager, and Wii Fit Trainer. All from the first set, all discontinued at Gamestop and Toys R Us. All super rare figures that are just a pain to find. Nintendo first came out saying that there would be some figures from wave 1 that would not be reprinted, that that was the only spotlight they would get. Well, right after that, about a week later, I believe, Nintendo said that they do plan on distributing the figures well enough to get a decent shelf life, or something to that extent. They CHANGED what they said a week before. This was the same branch that told us both, and they cant even keep their answers straight. Surely you can see how frustrating that is. I went up to Louisville about a week ago and I was lucky enough to grab a Wii Fit Trainer amiibo at the last stop we made. And there was only ONE copy of her in the whole dang store. Shes still in her packaging, too. And to all of you who did manage to collect the whole set at launch, good for flippin you. But not everyone has the money to grab these figures as SOON as they release, and Nintendo seems like theyre making these figures for the people that can buy them first, then the commons are left to be fought over by those who have to wait. Next up we have store exclusives. Rosalina at Target, Shulk at Gamestop, Meta Knight at Best Buy, Lucario is at Toys R Us. I dont know if Wal-Mart has one, but I wouldnt doubt it if they did. What really gets me is that Gamestop, according to a very accurate Gamestop leaker, plans on only selling Shulk to pre-orders, holding back the rest, and then selling them in stores at a much higher price marked as used. Huh, sounds kinda like what they did with Shulks game, huh? I guess its for nostalgias sake. But seriously, and if you want ANY of the wave 2 store exclusives, good fracking luck. Because theyre sold out online EVERYWHERE. And I dont think this is just a Christmas Tree Rush. I think this kind of rapid purchasing is going to carry over until after Christmas, especially with how Nintendo has been forcing rarity onto certain figures. *Sigh* As you can tell, I am not happy. Ive been pumped for these little guys since they came out. They unlock cool content in multiple games, act as Tomogachi pet fighters in Smash Bros, and are just cool figures to have all around. (The quality of mine are actually pretty decent compared to some of those terrifying pre-launch photos) Nintendo wants money but they seem to be throwing their fans off the sides of the road to get to the people who can pay first. Theyre making figures seem impossible to get. Theyre passing off store exclusives that will probably STAY store exclusive, instead of timed exclusives like Disney Infinity did. Im just... Im REALLY upset about this whole thing. I want some amiibos, dangit. I like Animal Crossing! I like Fire Emblem! So why cant I buy the amiibos, Nintendo? Ill end with this. Dont waste your money buying from some ebay or amazon user selling for a ridiculous amount. I mean yeah, it sounds like a good idea if you were to come across a batch of rare amiibos, but think about the consumers. You dont wanna be that guy who deprives the non-launch day buyers from getting an amiibo they want. Half the kids who want them dont even care about the rarity. They just want their characters. Some stores are pulling shady crap with this too. Just give this video a watch, youll see what I mean. Hopefully we can pull through this and see our sold-out amiibos sold in stores. Until then, hang in there.
