I want to thank all my friends and family who sent me birthday - TopicsExpress

I want to thank all my friends and family who sent me birthday wishes on fb and by email! Most of you know Ive been having a difficult time, so all the wishes gave me a real lift! Thank you so very much! It was an interesting birthday, starting at midnight Saturday with a first - a big, fluffy, healthy raccoon came sniffing right outside my door 3 times, but never figured out how to get at the birdseed and suet cakes in a large trash can! Never before saw a raccoon here in 23 years! During the day, I treated myself to special foods - whipped cream on my oatmeal with raisins, sliced almonds, stevia and skim milk for breakfast, and a premium pizza for dinner! Also took a long nap and watched some really interesting TV, including a search for the Holy Grail in Nova Scotia (of course they did not find it - the modern Templars, the Freemasons, must have moved it - again!)! I missed the Grand Prix Canada figure skating, but DVRd it for later. Then I caught a bit of news on Channel 7, because football was replacing news on the other channels. I was so happy, tho, because they had Mark Udall on - in person - and he was saying all the things he should have been explaining about his accomplishments in the Senate! He has concentrated too much on womens reproductive health and rights while his opponent, a far right extremist, has been passing himself off as a sweet family guy, lying through his teeth as he told what wonderful things he has done (NOT!) and will do (NOT!) while beaming a big, country grin. Unfortunately, most people were watching football at that time! There was a really good new Udall ad on later, but it was only 48 hours before the polls close in a state that is mostly voting by mail and so had already voted! Still, with the race being so tight, it might do the trick. Udall could very well be the person to help us tackle Global Warming /Climate Change in time to save the whole world - if he wins this election! Speaking of GW / CC, the best TV of all was a documentary on PBS called Taking Earths Temperature. Put together by Northern Arizona University climate scientists, it first aired in September. On my failing big screen TV, it was fabulous! They pulled together many other climate scientists from all over the world, including Boulder, who are investigating past climate changes in a myriad of ways. It was really fascinating. I searched and found it at PBS.org, then click on videos and enter the title in the search box. You need not fill in what your local PBS station is - just close that box. I watched a bit of it to make sure it was the same program, which it was. Unfortunately, it is not as striking on the small screen of my iPad, but give it some time and the information will pull you in! It answers many of the claims of the deniers, and helps everyone understand climate change much better. You will want to share it as much as possible! The best part of my day was a call from my sister to wish me happy birthday. We have been trying to help our schizoaffective brother who also is diabetic and has a gambling problem! We literally saved his life in September - he was broke, had only the clothes on his back, had lost all his ID and meds, and it turns out he was down to 114 lb (at 58 tall!), and could barely walk or talk! And he was in Salt Lake City, where we know nobody! Hes a Vet - still proud of his 8 years in the Air Force during Nam. He was stateside, but still qualifies for VA care. Unfortunately, VA is such a mess that he has been/is getting extremely poor care from them! Sis and I have been arguing about how best to help him - she doesnt want to admit how bad he is! But today, she is coming around. Hopefully it will be in time to do something for him before he completely loses his sense of reality - that comes and goes and usually ends up with him thinking he is OK and can take care of himself. And that invariably ends up with him taking off and ending up in a hospital somewhere! But with the diabetes, he could also end up dead beside a road somewhere! He needs to be in a supervised residence where he still feels like he has some freedom. There are such places, but not that VA will pay for, and the family does not have money. If anybody has any advice or knows how to get funding for such a place, I would be very grateful to hear about it. Marv wants desperately to be and do good, but his illness makes it impossible for him to do that on a consistent basis. Thanks for listening - and for any ideas! My 23-hour birthday ended with a lightening storm at midnight on Sunday! October was much warmer and drier than normal, after a cool and wet Spring and Summer! Now a cold front is coming in, with snow showers later today. It is cloudy and raining here now, and thunder-snowing in the slightly higher mountains. Overnight, the storm will clear out, and we will have the lowest temp of the Fall so far. November is normally our 2nd snowiest month! We shall see what we shall see - Tuesday and all month! Thank you again for helping make my birthday special!
