I wanted to ask all of you illustration collectors for help in finding and identifying a mysterious memory I have of an illustration that really impressed me when I was a little kid. In the late 1950s I checked a book out of my hometown library that was some sort of collection of fairy tales or myths. One included story was about Beowulf and Grendels mother. I was really fascinated by an Illustration in color of the underwater confrontation between them. Years later when I became an illustrator, I vaguely recalled it and wanted to check it out again to see if it was as cool as my memory suggested. I cant remember the exact book and have never come across it again. My sketchy memory thought it might be one of the Andrew Lang color named fairy books but the ones I have seen dont contain it. I know that there are different editions of them with probably different artists involved. Does anyone know if any of those Andrew Lang books includes the Beowulf story? That might provide a clue or eliminate that series from my searching. Or does anyone know of an illustration that might be the one I remember from a different source? This has intrigued and bugged me for decades.
