I wanted to write this the other day when I saw it but the memory - TopicsExpress

I wanted to write this the other day when I saw it but the memory of it will serve just fine. Im not sure what type of butterfly it was, one of the bright yellow kind, but it seemed so big. It flew across the front window of my car as I stopped and waited at the intersection. I watched it fly over my hood and off towards the middle of the intersection. The butterfly flew across my car and into the turn lane of oncoming traffic as the driver of that car slowed for the light. It was then that I saw something truly beautiful. The car waited, just sitting there in the turn lane, watching this giant bright yellow butterfly dance around its window. It sat there as the light turned red and other cars started to honk. The giant yellow butterfly dancing in the wind from one end of the car window to the other, back and forth. Finally, the car started to roll forward and completed its turn and as it passed I saw a guy driving with several children in the car with him. All of which seemed to be looking back at the butterfly. My gaze also returned to the butterfly in the middle of the intersection. It was easy to see because not a single car had moved from their spot. Every car in the front rows of each lane was dead in its tracks, not one car had moved when the light turned green. They all just sat there, watching the same thing, a giant bright yellow butterfly, dancing in the middle of the intersection. The people on the streets waiting to cross on foot were also watching, not moving. We all just kind of stopped. Everyone watching this giant yellow butterfly dancing in the breeze. After what seemed like an hour the butterfly just flew off, higher and higher until it was gone from view, traffic slowly started moving again as cars were honking from the back in every direction. Id never seen anything like it before in my life. One butterfly, weighing less than an ounce probably, stopped rush hour traffic at one of the busiest intersections in phoenix, for the entire duration of the light. It stopped traffic because it was bold and unique, it was beautiful to say the least. It stopped traffic and reminded no less than 8 drivers, myself included, that life, all life, is fragile and it is everyones duty to protect it. That butterfly was dancing in rush hour traffic like it has a job there, and every car that stopped saw how fragile and how beautiful it was, and we all made a choice not to proceed on our way as it could have harmed the butterfly. We didnt speak, most never even made eye contact with each other, we all just decided separately that we would not be the one to hurt it. Amazing. I think people need to make that choice more often in life. Stop everything, protect those that need protecting, then life goes on, for both of you. I would do it again yellow butterfly, so dance on little buddy and thanks for the lesson.
