I was actually really stoked for Porter Robinsons Worlds, but my honest opinion is that if youre going to spend months sort of slandering EDM in apparent exchange for an indie sound.. Why not just make a full-on rock record? Why pander to the EDM crowd at all? Why bother making something with aspects of EDM at all? To be honest, I liked the singles that led up to the album release as SINGLES. I think when compiled, the whole album is really tedious, monotonous, and lacks variety. As another reviewer I admire put it, in the realm of EDM the stuff may seem revolutionary, but when you compare it to the obvious influences (m83, crystal castles, general indie-electro), its very bland and generic. I think there are some definite gems on here, but I think Porter wouldve done better to slim it down to an EP and stop hyping it as something different on Twitter so often. I genuinely have no spite for Porter and I really wanted this LP to be great, but it just kinda came off as cool from an EDM perspective and very generic from an indie-rock-electro perspective. Ironically enough, the tracks I like the most on here are those that are closest to his previous EDM work in style. Cool to see people experimenting and I do really enjoy some of the tracks but I dont think Ill be buying it and I really cant see it making waves for that long.. and if it does I think people need to broaden their scope a bit and start looking at music without genres, because this stuff is already out there.
