I was also in Tver last week. A few observations from the week and the training we experienced during it......... About the training: - Each session was a 3 hour block, of which we did 2 a day. Each session had a learning objective and progressed from simple to complex, imparting specific skills in that subject. It often concluded with a demonstration of each pairs interpretation of the drill. This gave useful pressure to learning and performing which ingrained the drills in memory. - A good deal of the content to me was new, and very challenging. - The French Systema instructors and students were both very skilled and knowledgeable. When one trains with such people, his/her standard improves quickly. - I saw in others a massive growth in ability. I now believe, with time and correct training, that it is possible to progress from competent to a high level of skill I see in those teaching international seminars. - A new concept for me: the 3 stages of training - static, slow dynamic, and fast dynamic. Previously I had focussed my training entirely on slow dynamic and I now see the necessity of all three. - Valentin was very generous with his time and worked hard and individually with everyone there. - I feel my own understanding of and skill in Systema has fundamentally changed. About the welfare facilities - The hotel was luxurious and immaculately clean. Meals where great and there was lots of choice of food. There was a swimming pool on site and sauna. The river Volga, and beautiful silver birch forests surrounded us. - There was a bar on site. If you wanted, you could drink a litre of vodka - but you shouldnt. - Training on site like this made everything so relaxing and I could focus completely on training.
