I was asked to find some good pictures of Hurricane Rita for a project and thought I would share what I selected here. It has been a while since I have looked through these. What a day this was back in 2005. The cove was breaking in the channel and this was the first time I had seen this, or seen BIG Boca Chica. I remember being desperate to get on a boat in the channel from which to shoot. The boat I ended up on (and SO THANKFUL to those guys !!) became a shuttle for hustling surfers back out into the lineup after riding waves, and never stayed still for me to shoot. Didnt matter to me, though. I was just plain stoked to have that view !! The red tide was TERRIBLE and was like a choking fog in the air. Plus, the current was like a RIVER coming in the channel. Watermen and Texas paddling monsters were ALL struck by these conditions and welcomed that ride back to the peak...EPIC DAY !!
