I was challenged by Gunnar Wright to do the ALS Bucket Challenge. My kids are super excited to dump ice water on me. I will make my donation to alsa.org tomorrow and will get a video uploaded ASAP. I will be doing this in honor of my friend Ian T Hogg who has ALS. I want to share Ians story with you to put a face to ALS for all of you guys doing the ice bucket challenge. The last time I saw Ian was in November 2002; I had flown into Vegas and he, a Marine stationed in 29 Palms, was flying out of Vegas, excited to go home for Thanksgiving, and to see his infant daughter Bailey and wife Misty. We hung out and played a little black jack, and I remember Bailey was the wallpaper on his phone and he was so proud of her, so thrilled to get home and see Misty. Just a few months later Sgt. Hogg was amongst the first Marines to invade Iraq in March 2003. He lead 18 Marines into combat and brought them all home safely, and was excited to return home to his family, and to start college. He started showing symptoms of ALS at age 26 and was diagnosed at 28; the average age of diagnosis is 55. It is thought that chemical exposure in Iraq is the cause of his ALS. There is a message chiseled at the Marine cemetery on Iwo Jima: When you go home Tell them for us, and say For your tomorrow We gave our today. This is true of Ian. Here is a link to an old article about Ian: theplainsman/bookmark/12968713 Here is a YouTube video https://m.youtube/watch?v=eG2cRSiUnD4&autoplay=1 More links and pics to be posted below. This is a face of ALS. A face I know. Please make a contribution.
