I was honored to attend the 2nd Annual National Day of Remembrance, honoring the memory and legacy of victims of homicide. The ceremony was a moving tribute to the lives that have been lost due to homicide. I want to commend organizations like RGV Empowerment Zones Victims of Crime Prevention and Restoration Program, who work closely with families of victims to cope with tragedies and provide the legal, social and emotional support to restore their lives. We know that nothing can ever replace the loss of a loved one, but their spirit can live on in the work we do, together, to reduce violent crime and the victimization of citizens.
