I was in a Seoul coffee shop (not a Dutch sort) this evening. This place had a whole wall of shelves filled with hand coffee bean mills. On the sound system this song was playing. I came home and found it on the Youchoob and have heard it a few times since then. Its a classic. But wiki tells me it is a cover of an original by Tim Hardin. So I went and found that and heard it, but I didnt enjoy it anywhere near as much as Rod Stewarts version. And I am generally more of a folk fan than a Rod Stewart fan! Maybe it is the combination of electric organ and violin - Phillip Raskin knows I am a sucker for the organ (there are jokes there, but I will leave them for others). This made me think of songs where I prefer the cover to the original - either because I heard the cover first, or because some other aesthetic detail appeals to me more. I offer up a few more examples. No doubt there is one of those listicles on a website that people pass around here on Bookface these days as a viral meme or somesuch, but I would rather do it manually. In fact, to make it more challenging, I am going to leave the song titles blank. and see who can figure them out. Other similar quiz type contributions are more than welcome. : 1) _______________ - I prefer the Johnny Cash version 2) _______________ - I prefer the Roxy Music Version 3) _______________ - I prefer the Bryan Ferry Version 4) _______________ - I prefer the 10,000 Maniacs version 5) _______________ - I prefer the John(ny) Farnham version (this one is for the Aussies out there)
