I was just thinking about something today, and I thought it would - TopicsExpress

I was just thinking about something today, and I thought it would be worth discussing. I know this has kind of been somewhat exhausted, though I think its a worthy speculation (thats all it is now). So in the summer, BA operates 12 flights weekly to CYVR, with the daily BA85/BAW5VY and the five-times-weekly BA87/BAW4YA. Though with the arrival of their new 380s, do you think they would, in the next few years, upgauge their summer service to nine 380 flights as opposed to the 12 744 flights? As the airport plans to increase the RESA (that is the project, isnt it?) on 26R/08L, YVR can accommodate the aircraft. We have the stands used by the 744s that I believe are large enough (correct me if Im wrong - hopefully some of our resident airport workers can weigh in on this). Also, I cant imagine it would be more economical for them to fly 12 747 flight as opposed to a lesser amount of 380 flights. Seat-wise, its pretty even. Currently, the seat capacity weekly on BA is 4,140, and with nine 380 flights, the weekly seat capacity would be 4,221 - only an 81-seat difference. Obviously theyll be starting to operate them on their flagship routes (Dubai, LA, NY, Sydney/Singapore, etc...), but as their deliveries increase, theyll expand them into other routes, and I see CYVR as a viable airport for getting an upgauge, or at least for summer. What do you think - does this have potential for something we can see as a S16/S17 schedule change, or is this crazy? I wouldnt be surprised if it was the latter :)...
