I was nominated by Tori Martini and Christine Meyer to do the ice - TopicsExpress

I was nominated by Tori Martini and Christine Meyer to do the ice bucket challenge. I will not pour ice water on my head, but I will donate to ALS. Even with all the people doing the challenge I dont know that much about ALS. So here is a tidbit: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Eventually, people with ALS lose the ability to initiate and control muscle movement, which often leads to total paralysis and death within two to five years of diagnosis. For unknown reasons, veterans are twice as likely to develop ALS as the general population. There is no cure, and only one drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) modestly extends survival. Ive decided to donate to the Walk to Defeat ALS. Money raised through the Walk to Defeat ALS® supports vital patient service programs to help improve the quality of life of those battling ALS. Our chapters experienced team of care coordinators offers a variety of services for patients living with ALS and their families. Through patient care management, assistive technology, a medical equipment loan program, respite care, support groups, and multidisciplinary ALS clinics, we provide essential assistance for patients and their families at every stage of the disease.
