I was reading a thread about an attack in British teens in Zanzibar by a Muslim man. S many comments on that thread that I read, waited and then added my bent which knee written below. So many people with extreme thoughts on Muslims and other topics. Everyone takes up a banner of conviction through words, words and more words. We as Christians talk from positions that are often talk without any experience to back it up. Go out into the darkness as light. After living overseas for so many years, we are back and just a word wisdom. We cannot look through the lens of or Americanism and make statements about the rest of the world. And even as Christians, we assume too much about what we know. I will start writing about this on my blog. All those years imparted something into me. I am not an expert but I lived in the Middle East for 4-5 years. Visited Egypt, Oman, talked to people from Yemen, had friends from all over the Middle East, etc etc. they have sat in our home and talked with us. We ate with them, visited with them. I agree with a gentleman above way up the thread. Read Faisal Malick. Great books on Islam. Yes there are extremists- in every place, in every religion. I see fear and extreme in news reporting. I see fear and extreme in Christians. We talk a lot about Muslims but do we ever really talk to Muslims. Not arguing here but there is so much talk that is unfounded unless Christians leave their comfort zone and see what they do believe. We maintained our Christianity even when talking to Pakistanis that ran to the mosque next to our apartment many times a day. They are in darkness- who is not without Christ? I can say so much. I understand the concerns and compassion over incidents that provoke or anger. Just one thing more. We have lived overseas for the past 7 years and have returned to California. You cannot believe everything you hear or read here based on Fox of CNN. These are just some thoughts today because I believe to conquer darkness is to go into it and not run from it.
