I was reminded today that Ronald Reagan was a Democrat. He became a Republican not because his core beliefs or convictions changed, but because the Democrat party changed; it was no longer representative of his values. He did not ‘evolve’ or change his positions to match a popular narrative, he remained true to unshakable principles and that commitment to what he knew was truth eventually won the presidency and for a time restored America. As we learn of the contemptible behavior of the Washington ruling class in Mississippi abandoning all principle to secure a “win”, we see just how far the national GOP leadership has fallen. They have become the same radical element using the same tactics we see in leftist organizations like ACORN and its current manifestations. Having sunk so low to secure a “win” proves those who claim winning in politics is the most important thing in the end win nothing as the win in Mississippi is no victory for those who still see value in Republican principles. Their means to justify an end reflects the arrogance of a governing body that no longer rules with or is concerned about the consent of the governed. It reflects the true nature of a centralized governing body no longer concerned with a Party labels beyond the need to use them to deceive the population at election time or in the case of Mississippi where deception no longer works, the stealing of an election by any means necessary. We are hearing a lot of how to win as we move into the 2014 general election and beyond and along with it a good many people are willing to abandon their core beliefs to secure a “win”. The same question has to be asked in doing so of, “what do you actually win?” The GOP in Colorado has choices to make. We can go the way of bowing to those in Washington and their surrogates who claim to be Republicans or Democrats, but are in truth a blended ruling class who have abandoned principle for power or we can look to what works for America and what worked for Reagan; truth and the courage to stand by core principles that in the end will secure true and permanent victory. I know tonight the GOP in Colorado lost at least one member due to the events in Mississippi and nationally it figures many more are leaving; not because their core values changed, but because the Party on the national level is no longer representative of their values and that is no win.
