I was stuck in this overcrowded courtroom with foreigners, detainees and family members since 9am. The smell of human fluid was everywhere. Human temperature overpowered the poor air conditioner. Air ventilation came to a total halt. By 12 noon, my blood sugar level was so low that I could kill a tiger. No one was certain how long more we needed to be here. I missed my dental appointment as a result. But in the end, just before the court broke for lunch, an innocent Bangladeshi worker, who got tangled in our Malaysian criminal justice system and let to rot in lockup since October last year, was released and set free. That makes all the waiting, starving, hallucinating etc worth it. Not a cent paid, but a million dollar richer.
