I was used to sitting in a corner and waiting for class to end. I was forbidden to touch the other children. They were afraid of me, says 14-year-old Ana Paulino, who is born with albinism. In her previous school, Ana was not allowed to do sports, or anything else that would put her in close contact with other children. Today Ana is at Armando Guebuza Elementary School, which is part of the Child-Friendly Schools initiative and promotes inclusive education and the rights of all children. Many of my classmates like me now, they are not afraid anymore, says Ana with a twinkle in her eyes, and says she feels very much a part of her class now.
