I was watching a youtube video and the guy mentioned that the plastic milk containers have 4 sets of threads simultaneously traveling around the circumference ( a normal bolt has just one thread set if you will). As he explained, 4 sets of threads (each located 90* apart around the diameter) will have a much greater angle than just one thread set because there are 4 separate ones going around the diameter at once. This makes one turn follow down the bolt ( or container in this case) a greater (4x) than a single thread set. The advantage? First, the travel per turn, and secondly it is nearly impossible to cross thread because you are engaging four separate threads at a time. So it is a great choice for milk carton threads since we men would get real frustrated when the females in the house cross thread the milk container cap!
