I watched THE PARADINE CASE recently, another Hitchcock film (my 21st by my count, which is something...im really getting up there, almost one Hitchcock film for every year of my life) and was truly surprised, besides being another document of Hitchcocks deeply unsettling view of women, this film is almost totally void of any kind of auteurist pulse, no real Hitchcockian energy. And this would make sense at a different phase of his career, but PARADINE is sandwiched in between NOTORIOUS and ROPE, two masterworks, indicating a very creatively fertile time for Hitchcock. I guess he was just taking a nap here. This is also notable as a sort of coming out, and introducing... moment for Valli, most well-known today for her glamorous refugee in THE THIRD MAN. And one final note, DAAAAAAMMMMNNN young gregory peck is fine. https://youtube/watch?v=HCKqAc1z72w
