I wear a tie to work. No-one else does, it is not required requested or even preferred, the supervisors dont wear ties. But I happen to like them, I get them from op shops for a dollar odd. I have a great one in the Odalisque range with a very tasteful painting of a semi-naked reclining woman with her perky nipples on the hidden side of the tie. No-one knows they‘re there but me. And now you. I‘m wearing my elephant tie at this moment. I have a black silk tie...but that one does need some repair since I put iy through the wash....otherwise I wear to work cargo pants from KMart a faded blue shirt from an op shop; a leather coat which a neighbour gave me from her garage sale; and a check flannel overshirt on cool nights and crocs yet on my feet all also from KMart. My point in this description is that I dont think I dress wealthy overall. But the power of the tie is such that young men.call me sir; and ticket inspectors at Flinders St pounce on me and demand to see my concession card. Doesnt seem to happen without the tie. What a symbol using species we are.
