I welcome the celebration of National Hispanic American Heritage - TopicsExpress

I welcome the celebration of National Hispanic American Heritage Month. This is a time to explore and honor the accomplishments and contributions of the Latino community. The recognition and celebration of culture is important to appreciate diversity. The advancement and influence of Hispanic-American heritage has been impactful, especially in government affairs. The Honorable Melissa Mark-Viverito was elected this year as the first Latina to be Speaker of the New York City Council. Also, Diana Reyna, a Dominican-American born Latina was appointed to serve the borough of Brooklyn as Deputy Borough President. As District Director and candidate for the 20th Senatorial District that represents thousands of Hispanic families, I look forward to working with my colleagues to advocate for important issues that matter most: passing the DREAM ACT, affordable housing, immigration reform, raising the minimum wage, quality education and public safety.
