I welcomed Senator the Hon Michael Ronaldson, Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Centenary of ANZAC to Dobell today for a Veterans Forum and a series of grant announcements. I would like to thank the Toukley RSL Sub-branch for hosting today’s Forum which provided an opportunity for local Veterans’ to talk directly to our Minister and hear first-hand how the Government is helping our Veteran community. The Minister also took the opportunity to announce that the Toukley RSL Sub-branch will receive $22,200 of Federal Government funds through the ANZAC Centenary Local Grants programme. This grant will enable the Toukley RSL Sub-branch to install a commemorative stone and bronze plaque at each of the ten schools within their area as well as a commemorative flag pole at Norah Head. In addition to this grant I was able announce a further $59,435 through the Veteran and Community Grant programme to enable Toukley RSL Sub-branch to purchase a new bus for transporting Veterans to commemorative and social functions The Minister’s visit concluded with a trip to the recently opened ‘Dig-In Gardening for Veterans Community Garden’ at the Terrigal Wamberal RSL. The garden was made possible through a Federal Government Grant of $15,000 and includes a veggie patch, path, raised beds and seats where returned Diggers and their families can come to relax or take part in some gardening. Thank you again to the Minister for taking the time to visit Dobell today and for his ongoing support for our local Veterans community.
