I went to the convenience store close to the house ...I met a homeless man who had me smiling from ear to ear..it was his hat with feathers...his specially made cane and his kindness. I felt compelled to talk to him and in some strange way reminded me of my daddy... Talking with him he served this country...he showed me his purple hearts and wanted to show me his scars...I told him him it wasnt necessary..yet my heart hurt talking to him...it made me sad..in 1984 he served this country in the army...and now at 68 he is homeless and it gets me thinking ...is this how we treat our vets who come back from war? I couldnt help but buy him a beer and some food..to show him....not all people turn their nose up to homeless people and to show him how much I appreciated his service... many of our homeless are former military personnel who cannot get used living the way they once did. Unless you have been to war or have a family member who went to war..you probably couldnt understand. My brother Jason was a proud marine and served in Desert Storm..I can tell you ...he came back a different man. Life as he knew it was never the same. I often think what is gonna happen to the troops when they come back home? They prepare these guys and gals for war yet they do not help them enough to get back on their feet once they get home to live a normal life....as you and I experience it. Honoring our troops is awesome but we really need to help them as they have helped us. As the holiday is coming to a close....Thank you troops for sacrificing your life for all. God Bless America and all the nations who are experiencing war!
