I will gladly welcome anyones advice on this matter... I hate to admit it, but I am becoming something of a disgruntled employee. Of my two jobs, folding laundry for a spa is easily my favorite. But in the few months Ive worked there, some things have transpired which seem to be gnawing at me... First of all, this laundry facility is not on-site at the spa itself. There are only six laundry employees who make sure all the linens from the spa get washed, dried, sorted, and neatly folded every single day. I feel that, at a high-end spa, presentation is key to its success. Having clean linens on-hand for whatever service a client wants is absolutely integral. Without the laundry staff, the spa would not be able to operate. Yet it appears to me that we are nothing but an afterthought to them. We arent given any sort of employee discount on the myriad services they offer (that would be the least they could do!). There were no floor mats when I first began there, so we were standing entire shifts on bare concrete. We had to nag at them for weeks to get a key to the fire exit. We arent allowed to open the blinds and let a little sunshine in. They dont provide us with drinking water. (Although we may purchase bottled water next door, for which they will reimburse us.) There is an annual company party they hold in August at a nearby bar. But Im on probation and not allowed to go to bars, and another employee is underage, so he cant go either. But he and I work just as hard as anyone else there, so what kind of celebration do we get? None is planned for us. I want to be very clear: I really do love this job. I consider my coworkers and my direct supervisor to be good friends of mine. I dont think my employer deserves any negative publicity over this. I simply wish our role as laundry attendants were made a priority within the company. Without the work we do for them on a daily basis, they would not be able to function at all. Advice?
