I wish we can stop tipping at restaurants and other service - TopicsExpress

I wish we can stop tipping at restaurants and other service establishments. Hold up on the hate and let me explain. Americas tipping culture primarily benefits businesses as they get to off-load their labor expenses; essentially forcing customers the responsibility of the livelihood of servers, bussers, etc. So what will happen if we abolished our tipping system? In the long run, Restaurants will have to charge a higher price but customers will be paying the same amount anyways. It transfers the responsibility of paying a fair wage from the customers to the business. Another reason why I think the % based tipping system is wack is because the amount of service received can be independent of the price of goods and services rendered. If I order an one item-$10 meal and tip 25%, Ill seem like a generous big-poppa generation bling bling. But lets say my friend goes to the same restaurant and orders an 1 item-$20 meal and tips 12.5%. He and I should have received the same amount of service (taking our orders, bringing our food out, bussing our tables). We both tipped the same amount, $2.50. But in the latter example, my friends tipping gesture would have been frowned upon. Why though? Did we not get the same service? What are you thoughts? #foodforthoughttuesdays #newseriesbybaladan
