I woke up with Mark 10:17-31 in mind, the story of the Rich Young Man, and it made me reevaluate my relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and how it must go BEYOND the sacramental basics of Mass, confession, and the spiritual disciplines of celibacy and praying specific written prayers. So I talked to my kids over breakfast about how we could give our hearts and souls to Jesus and their answer surprised me. They said, Mom, we already gave our hearts and souls to Jesus - I said oh really how so? They said, we go to school everyday and do our best, so we can grow up to help others, we share our snacks with our friends that forget their snacks, we help our friends when theyre feeling down and others in need and we do it not because we want a reward, but because of our love for Jesus and His teachings. It melted my heart. I pray that they never stray, especially in the rough road ahead of adolescence!!
