I would like to give the WA gov a plug, in particular the Department of agriculture and food. I have worked with them and the ex chief inspector of the RSPCA in WA who is clearly a very good man. I will note a few paragraphs from the DAFWA; Addressed to Amanda Swift (current chief inspector of the RSPCA WA) It is my role as the Director General of the DAFWA responsible for assisting the minister in administrating the Act, to appoint inspectors. It is also my role to restrict the authority of inspectors, or even revoke authority, where I consider this appropriate to protect the public and the integrity of the legislation. In future, unless you demonstrate a high regard for your responsibilities under the Act, and act accordingly, I may need to consider the options available to me in relation to your appointment. Please note that if you are found to have acted contrary to the legislation, it is possible that you could be subject to charges for disobeying statue law. The FOI documents I have obtained go much further than this, and ought to have been mimicked by the ministers office here in SA in relation to most current cases between the RSPCA prosecution section and animal shelters and rescue groups. The DAFWA,s own comments on the RSPCA prosecution sections handling of a case I am currently involved with go like this The prosecution notices fall markedly short of acceptable standards; lacking any meaningful particulars and cited written law does not match the written description of the offence. Medical histories and behavior assessments provided by the RSPCA do not appear to support the contention that the animals destroyed were suffering so severely that destroying them would be the most humane thing to do The above FOI statements obtained relate to my good friend Mariana Mays case in WA, but in the most the structure in the way the RSPCA are dealing with Mariana are the very same as the direction taken in relation to many cases here in SA, including Lolas. Change is necessary, and the fact the RSPCA here and in WA are sacking staff under silence clauses, will not cover up the truth. I now have a great legal team together who will not stop until accountability has been achieved, and healthy animals are protected. This will include pressing criminal charges against certain people and animal cruelty charges against the RSPCA themselves. Here is to standing united in the best interests of genuine animal welfare.
