I would like to pose a topic for discussion: The human brain - TopicsExpress

I would like to pose a topic for discussion: The human brain distinguishes electromagnetic radiation between 400-800 thz as visible light which are interpreted by the brain as an array of what we would call color. Let us take red. which encompasses the wavelength between 400 to 480 thz. By some evolutionary process which I am not educated enough to explain we have adapted the capability of interpreting this wavelength as red. It may be safe to say that the color red is an experience innately limited to life on Earth. Without the evolutionary process that has taken place on this planet, there would be nothing to interpret the visible spectrum as color, and 400-480thz as red... at least not in the same way humans can experience red. Now, other animals can see red. Not sure which. But I am sure that only humans can describe red, think abstractly about it, have feelings towards the color, prefer or dislike the color. We see a red flower, red sunsets, red cars, red fire, red blood. At some point I heard of this concept that we know innately everything there is to know about red, we see it all the time, we dont think twice about it... but we cannot possibly describe the color to someone who has never seen the color. Namely a blind person. This is a long example of the complexity of senses life on Earth is privy to. This can be applied to scent, sensation, sounds etc... Without life... does red exist? do fragrances exist? does sound exist? All of these things, seemingly, exist only to the perception of earthbound life. Without humans, not only is there nothing to ponder the universe... but there will ultimately lack everything life experiences. Are these coincidence? Should we be grateful beyond coincidence for these senses we have evolved to interpret? What do you make of this... are our senses unique to the human experience, which in no other manner can exist? Eh. I already know how everyone will respond... but perhaps, discuss this topic not only from an atheistic/theistic standpoint but perhaps also from artistic, abstract, philosophical perspectives. If you are in agreement with my conclusions, are we lucky to see in a way that can never exist without us, regardless of theological standpoints? And surely, criticize what you disagree with.
