I would post some pictures from todays experience, but I was having a frustration experience uploading them. Its been an interesting day. We left from the airport at Nairobi around 4 pm and flew to Juba, capital of South Sudan. Paul Leigeber and I got to go through security twice at Nairobi. Our bags were 3 kg overweight, so we had to exit the terminal and go to the business office to pay our excess baggage fee. Both of us (our bags, not us personally) were the 3 kg over. His fee was $6.00 and mine was $18, but I didnt ask, just went with the flow. We arrived at Juba around 5:30. The terminal building is quite small. Five international flights arrived in quick succession, and it was a mad house to go through the customs lines. We already had our visas. There was an additional yellow paper to fill out, and we made it to the front of the line before we became aware of the yellow paper. When we got out of line to get our yellow paper the guard told us there were all out of yellow paper, so back in line. Eventually we got our passport stamped, and then it was quite a hoot to gather our luggage. They security opened all our bags and did quite a fine job of stirring up all the contents. One interesting thing in that rifling--I had three copies of a book, paperback on Lutheran doctrine, two were in one bag, and the third in another. The guard wanted to know my profession, how long I would be in South Sudan, what church I was with. When he came to the book in the second bag, he asked if he could have it. I told him yes, please take it. Maybe some fruit will come from it. Paul Leigeber took a picture with his cell phone just before we were taking our finally retrieved bags to the curb for pickup by our transportation. We were still in the building. Two tall young men took exception to his picture taking, told him it was illegal and they had to have the phone, said they were with security. Paul deleted the picture but told them they werent getting his phone. Paul Kon was with him. And they didt get his phone, Paul and Paul just left. Tonight we are staying in the Transit hotel in Juba. Its pretty nice (see other post). It must be pretty new. Three of the outlet boxes are more or less hanging out of the way, which is kind of interesting. Tomorrow we will be in Bor, thats the plan. I think we may even have an introductory session tomorrow, and the full teaching will start on Thursday.
