Before the inception of IWA, there was no umbrella organization that was representing different countries worldwide, hence no One Diaspora Igbo Voice for Our People. KEY DECICIONS IN IWA CONSTITUTION 1. ZONED ELECTION IWA is structured into two groups. The leadership rotates between the groups. Group 1: the Americas, Caribbean Group 2: Europe, Africa and Asia Voting is done by countries and one country one vote 2. HIERARCHY OF AUTHORITY (Igbo Welu Eze) IWA agrees that Ohaneze Ndigbo (Nigeria) is the Parent Organisation and Mouthpiece of Ndigbo World Wide, hence the close collaboration and working with Ohaneze Ndigbo in ALL matters of concern to Ndigbo – IGBO AGENDA – IGBO UNITY. 3. IWA CONVENTIONS All IWA Conventions must be in Nigeria. The Conventions is always scheduled on 24th and 25th September of every year in the state chosen by Ohaneze Ndigbo Igbo Day Commemoration on 29th September of every year. 4. IWA condemn any installation of any titles outside Igbo land c. IWA to promote our IGBO VILLAGE IN STAUNTON VIRGINIA, USA 5. YOUTH AGENDA IWA agree that the future of Ndigbo should taken seriously, hence: a. Igbo Youths - The emerging force of Igbo World Assembly (IWA) Institution b. Character Education and Skill Acquisition AGENDA IWA was created to unite Igbo voice on all matters for Ndigbo in the Diasporas and Ala Igbo & Nigeria, with a governance style of participative and consultative leadership To assist it in this task IWA became the first & only Igbo Diaspora organization to be officially collaborating with Ohaneze Ndi Igbo in Nigeria & has worked closely with Ohaneze Ndigbo ever since its inception for the betterment of Ndigbo. IWA is also a pioneer in uniting Igbos in Diaspora, through their country affiliated umbrella organizations. IWA has currently the following Apex National Igbo Organizations (outside Nigeria) in the various countries of the world currently includes USA, UK, France, Spain, Finland, Netherland, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, South Africa, Russia, Australia, Denmark, Japan, Italy, Russia, Ukraine, Sweden, Canada, Dubai, Pakistan, Ghana, Mali, China. More countries are coming on board. The Igbo World Assembly (IWA) works very closely and recognizes Ohaneze Ndigbo as the mouthpiece of Ndigbo World Wide. IWA therefore does not compete for individual Igbo Community Groups and/or Organizations, Associations, Unions, Groups and Clubs. IWA encourages other Igbo Organisations, Associations, Unions, Groups, and Clubs to exist with their UNIQUE PURPOSE for the common Igbo Agenda and not to duplicate, undermine or fight one another. IWA is willing to cooperate and collaborate with other Igbo groups. The Igbo World Assembly (IWA) Dream It is the dream of IWA to unite all the Igbo organisations in the Diasporas, through their respective country umbrella organization, to stand together for the better of the Igbo cause and the mutual development of Igbo land without a view to personal gain or involvement in partisan politics. It is our belief that if we can unite under one umbrella organization and speak with one voice, our mutual goal of the development of the South East with the creation of jobs, training, poverty eradication, an enviable medical care system, security of citizens and property, the retaining of our proud culture and language and so much more will become an attainable dream within our life time and a legacy for all Igbo generations to come. It is time for the Igbos to reclaim their place within our country, we believe that in order to achieve this we must overcome the biggest obstacle facing our people at the moment. What is this obstacle? In the simplest of terms it is the Igbo Enwe Eze approach which has led some of our leaders and high powered sons and daughters to actually battle for power against each other rather than unite to fight a common enemy with one voice and push to create an Igbo nation that not only thrives but flourishes while providing life basics for all Igbo people The Way Forward The Igbo World Assembly (IWA), promotes the unity of Ndigbo in the Diaspora and collaborate with Ohaneze Ndigbo (our parent body) led by President General Chief Garry Nnachi Enwo-Igariwey, for IGBO UNITY, PROGRESS AND THE GREATER PICTURE. At IWA, we believe that the only way forward is to influence how things develop at home by showing the example, in other words we the Igbos in the Diasporas need to show that it is possible to unite under one umbrella organisation and collectively have one voice on issues that affect us here or in the South East, South South and OUR Kinsmen and Women in the Middle Belt Region, without any partisan politics or desire for personal gain coming into anything we do. Should we achieve this goal of oneness, which last happened during the fight for Biafra, our brothers and sisters we will be making history and paving the way for our children and all other future generations to live a life full of opportunity and prosperity. Surely this a goal worth putting our individual differences aside for? What kind of example are we showing our children if we constantly put individualism and self-gain first? We have all heard of endangered species and the fight to save them, well what we are talking about here is far bigger because we are talking about saving an Endangered Race, and believe us we don’t have that much time. We not only owe it to our children and the generations to come, we owe it ourselves. The time to take a stand is now, we need to start the journey of a thousand steps with this one. Action Now IWA at its inception agreed on the following: 1. To be relevant and get involved in the development of Ala Igbo. IWA made a decision to be hosting IWA convention in Ala Igbo, in collaboration with Ohaneze Igbo Day celebration on the 29th September every year. 2. IWA recognises the importance of networking with the Disabled Ndigbo, Youths, Women, Traditional Institution and more importantly the Igbo Stakeholders in all works of life. Hence the decision to organise conventions in Ala Igbo. 3. IWA recognises that the DIAPORAS ARE KNOWN TO BE THE ENGINE OF EVERY PROGRESSIVE NATION. Hence IGBO WORLD ASSEMBLY (IWA) - RECOGNISES THE FACT IGBO WORLD ASSEMBLY (IWA) “TAKES UP THE CHALLENGE IGBO WORLD ASSEMBLY (IWA) “HAS TAKEN THE RESPONSIBILITY TO REVERSE THE BRAIN DRAIN IGBO WORLD ASSEMBLY (IWA) “BRINGS HUMAN CAPITAL HOME IGBO WORLD ASSEMBLY (IWA) “BRINGS FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT HOME IGBO WORLD ASSEMBLY (IWA)“ TAKES NDIGBO IN DIASPORA BACK HOME 4.
