ILL PREPARED WALKER RESCUED AT WENTWORTH FALLS. A 47yr old man from Liverpool had to be winched out from the Hippocrene Falls area, south of Wentworth Falls by the Police helicopter after having become lost. The man was originally intending to undertake the fairly easy walk from Falls Rd around to the Conservation Hut but changed his mind and went with a group of people on the 2 hr trek down to Vera Falls. He then left the group. Whilst attempting to navigate his was back to Wentworth Falls the victim has lost the walking track and become lost. The land and tracks down in the valley between Vera Falls and Hippocrene Falls are advised only for very experienced walkers and are not sign posted. He had to climb an escarpment and was lucky to obtain phone signal, ringing family who then rang police. It took Police Rescue officers approximately 3 hrs to find the man, only to discover that he had no food, water, maps or GPS, no beacon or appropriate clothing. Due to his fatigue he had to be winched out but, because of failing light, the helicopter was unable to go back for the Rescue officers who then had a 3 hour walk back. Fortunately, the man was not otherwise injured from his experience. Think Before You Trek police.nsw.gov.au/community_issues/crime_prevention/trek
