INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT AND ECONOMIC GROWTH in PHL This news came out today, 03 October 2013: ADB increases 2013 growth forecast for the Philippines to 7% from 6% and 2014 forecast to 6.1% from 5.9% SDA funds reached Php1.626tn as of Sept 13, higher than the Php1.58tn recorded from the previous week ========== The Phl economy is one of of the highest growing economies in the region. There is so much money available in the Phl economy. We are living in one of the best times in terms of economic growth. And now is also the best time to spur Inclusive Development for the Filipino-Masa. Q: How can we make economic growth translate to Inclusive Development for the Filipino-Masa ...- meaning economic growth that benefits the majority of the Filipinos in rural and urban areas? While economic theories talk of trickle down effect, we have to see this theory happening in the Phl. While there are formal structures that aim to push economic development to rural areas such as government infrastructure, micro-finance institutions, we have to see more of the Filipino-Masa going into community or sector-based productive economic activities. This year, the Pnoy administration is focusing to spur government spending on infrastructure and agricultural development. Is this good for a country where floods and typhoons are almost daily occurrences? In contrast, other countries in the such as India and China (with huge human resources as in Ph), have focused on education - education - education. Why focus on education? Because the global economy is driven by innovation, and education - education - education creates a generation of thinkers that can be trained on innovation. Do we want another generation of Filipinos who will be small-scale farmers (at the mercy of the environment) or low skill laborers? Or do we dream of this generation of Filipinos that is mentally strong, highly educated and strongly motivated to succeed to the highest human potential - in the context of a global economy. WE NEED A NEW METAPHOR FOR THE FILIPINO-MASA: THINK BIG, THINK GLOBAL, THINK SUCCESS. JOMARI BONDOC
