INCREASED JUVENILE DOCKET FOR CITY COURT: Lake Charles City - TopicsExpress

INCREASED JUVENILE DOCKET FOR CITY COURT: Lake Charles City Court handled only 62 Juvenile cases last year. For a court that operates a full day it can handle more cases and longer court time. Court is only in session typically till around noon on any given day. If you have ever been involved in a case in District Family Court you are aware of just how crowded their docket is, and there are several reasons for that. Juvenile cases are only a portion of the matters handled by Family Court. Lake Charles City Court has concurrent jurisdiction with District court on Juvenile cases, and City Court can and should handle more Juvenile cases, which would free District Court up to complete its other caseload. I have spoken with Family District Court personnel as well as Juvenile Probation and other key personnel and not only is this doable but it should be done. My opponents have taken the position that there are jurisdictional problems with this proposal, but after double checking my research and discussing with other family attorneys I am more convinced than ever that the only reason more Juvenile cases arent handled in City Court is simply a lack of interest by the Court. This needs to change. Please join us and ask your family and friends to vote for #69, Bryan Gill for Ward III, Lake Charles City Court Judge, Div. B on Nov. 4th. Thank you so much for your support and have a great day! B
