INSURGENCY: Local Hunters Succeeded Where Army Failed Its no longer news that the Boko Haram insurgents have overran and taken over scores of towns: Mubi, Michika, Madagali and Maiha in the North/East Nigeria. Whats news was reclaiming the seized towns by the local hunters whose weaponry are bowls and arrows. The first town that was reclaimed by the local hunters after they reportedly killed 80 insurgents was Maiha Local Government where the insurgents in battle overran the military, killed a Lt. Col. and several others. This development as gathered, spurred the local hunters to take the bull by its horns, and did what the military and police riot forces combined couldnt do. The hunters didnt limit their warfare against insurgency to Maiha alone, they reportedly clamped on the insurgents in Mubi and were able to retake the town, arrest their leader and made them take to their heels in a hot Chase. This victory was said to have been confirmed by Adamawa State Governor, Bala Ngilari. But, in spite of the victory said to have been achieved in Mubi, Maiha and neighboring communities, over insurgency, people are still fleeing to Yola for fear of reprisal attack by the insurgents who may regroup and fight back. Therefore, the IDPS centres in the state may continue to house more displaced persons. The incessant spate of insurgency in the country in the face of boastful commitments of the presidency to fighting it to a halt, is one tragedy too many, as its embarrassingly apparent that, the country lack the required military might to bring insurgency to a halt, hence the intervention of the local hunters when the army failed woefully in its constitutional responsibility: securing the territorial integrity of the country against internal and external aggression. #SIW
