IS KENYA A BRITISH COLONY? More than 100 Assembly of State Parties (ASP) members have indicated that they will support the termination of ICC cases facing President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy, William Ruto, at The Hague. Kenyas representative to the UN, Mr Macharia Kamau, said over 100 members have indicated their willingness to support the termination of Kenya’s ICC cases on December 8th when the assembly meets in New York. Kenya has requested for an amendment to the Rome Statute provision that denies Presidents immunity from prosecution at the ICC. Kamau said this amendment is being supported by all State Parties’ except Britain. But even before the assembly meets, three arms of the ICC, the Registry, the Prosecutor and the Presidency have ganged up to frustrate Kenyan efforts. The ICC officials are afraid that the ASP meeting might go the Kenyan way and they fear that the court will lose its credibility and lose of lucrative jobs pegged on prolonged cases.
